Celebrity Profile: Liam Neeson


Liam John Neeson was born in Ballymena, County Antrim, Northern Ireland on June 7, 1952 to Bernard and Katherine Neeson. He is third of four siblings, the only son of the family. Neeson is an actor who has been nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award and BAFTA.

Some of Neeson’s most notable roles include his portrayal of the character “Oskar Schindler” in Schindler’s List, “Michael Collins” in Michael Collins, “Jean Valjean” in Les Misérables, “Qui-Gon Jinn” in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, “Alfred Kinsey” in Kinsey, and the voice of “Aslan” in The Chronicles of Narnia film series.

Neeson has several other notable films to his credit including “The Dead Pool,” “Rob Roy,” “Darkman,” “Nell,” “Gangs of New York,” “Love,” “Actually,” “Kingdom of Heaven,” “Batman Begins,” “Taken,” “Chloe,” “Clash of the Titans,” and “The A-Team.”

Neeson’s interest in acting was sparked when he was eleven years old and performed in a school play. After completing his studies at Queen’s University in Belfast, Neeson moved to Dublin and joined the renowned Abbey Theatre to further his acting career, successfully landing his first film role in 1978. portraying Jesus Christ in the film “Pilgrim’s Progress” directed by Ken Anderson.  In 1980, he starred in the Medieval themed movie “Excalibur” and when the filming was completed he moved to London.

Neeson starred in five films from 1982 to 1987 with the most highly acclaimed performances alongside Mel Gibson and Anthony Hopkins in 1984 film “The Bounty” and “The Mission” filmed in 1986 co-starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons.

He came to the United States in 1987 to pursue high profile roles and starred opposite of Dennis Quaid and Cher in the  1987 thriler “Suspect.” However it was the 1990 film “Darkman” which brought him the highest critical acclaim. He performed in live theater production for “Anna Christie” with Natasha Richardson and the film “Nell.”  His performance was impressive and director Steven Spielberg offered him the role of Oskar Schindler in the film “Schindler’s List” for which earned him an Academy Award nomination for “Best Actor.”

In 2010 Liam Neeson performed in “Clash of the Titans” a story based on Greek mythology and “The A-Team” a war action drama.
