Louis Leterrier the director of “The Transporter” took on the challenge of remaking the 1981 adventure film in 3D almost thirty years later for audiences who may or may not have seen the original film.
“Clash of the Titans” is based on the Greek myth, Perseus (Sam Worthington) who is born of a god but has no knowledge of this because he was raised as a man. But when wants to marry the woman he loves, he learns the truth and must battle the evil Medusa along with an array of other hideous monsters to win the right to have his bride.
But Perseus has even more burdens on his shoulders for Hades (Ralph Fiennes), a vengeful god of the underworld is determined to destroy his family and Perseus can do nothing to stop him.
With his family gone he feels lost and confused, angered by his limitations and begins to question the reality of the gods.
In his darkest hour Perseus meets his spiritual guide Io (Gemma Arterton) who encourages him not to forsake hope but instead use the events caused by Hades as a source of inspiration to become the person he is meant to be and face his destiny.
The god of the sea Poseidon (Danny Houston) is also on his side and delivers help to Perseus speeding his journey to meet his fate.
Striped of everything that he loved, Perseus abandons caution and agrees to take the lead in a death-defying mission to stop Hades before he can dethrone Zeus (Liam Neeson) and unleash his minions on earth.
Meanwhile Zeus is aware of the challenge facing Perseus and is watching attentively to see whether or not he will stand the test or turn his back and refuse to accept his destiny.
Through a series of battles with all types of mythical creatures set in his path to stop Perseus from reaching Hades in time, he and his companions inch closer to the final showdown with Hades that will determine the future of life in the world.
Remaining true to the original movie, most of the characters in this film provide a more believable performance than their predecessors. The action scenes in “The Clash of the Titans” are enhanced with the use of 3D and while many of the creatures from the original make a return appearance the overall effect is definitely 21st century.
