In the movie, the entire process has advanced to the point where they have eliminated the human factor; now organ transplants are mechanical and very expensive. They are easy to get, but if you fall behind on your payments “The Union,” who runs the operation will send the Repo Men to take back the organ.
Remy (Jude Law) and Jake (Forest Whitaker) are best friends who have the honor of being The Union’s most dangerous repossession agents. Instead of reclaiming a vehicle, their job is to repossess expensive donor organs if the recipients fall behind on their payments.
The problem here is that there is no concern for the life of the person, the organ is taken from the recipient whether they can live without it or not. If your name is on the Repo Men’s list, wherever they find you they will take the action necessary to reclaim The Union’s property.
For these two Repo Men life is sweet, that is until Remy has an accident on the job and he suffers a cardiac failure. When he wakes up, he finds that The Union has come to the rescue with a state-of-the-art heart replacement. Remy is lucky to be alive, but now he no longer wants to be a Repo Man. Without his job and the hefty salary he once enjoyed, he loses not only his partner, but his ability to pay for the organ.
His former partner Jake is assigned the difficult task of hunting down his best friend. The action really takes off with Remy on the run and Jake hot on his trail. Remy knows Jake very well and he knows that nothing can stop Jake from finishing the job.
Remy begins looking for a way to escape and connects with Beth (Alice Braga) who was in his situation and she agrees to help him disappear from the system. The chase takes Remy through realms he never knew existed as he desperately searches for a way to bring the system down.
Through the course of his adventure he meets a wide range of characters and in the process of gaining his freedom becomes a champion for millions of others who are just like him.
