How to Fix WordPress Thumbnails Not Showing in Facebook

Some months ago we started to have some problems to post our WordPress articles into our Facebook page. The thumbnails were not shown on the Facebook wall… We tried to apply different solutions like changing folder permissions or html code but without success. This thumbnail issue is currently affecting a lot of webmasters, commonly WordPress users.

We’ve finally found a two step solution to fix this issue and we want to share  it with you because too many webmasters are facing this problem and the Facebook support team doesn’t seem to be interested…

First, to show thumbnails from your WordPress blog in your facebook page, you will have to install the Facebook and Digg Thumbnail generator created by Fedmich.

You can download this plugin here.

This plugin will automatically add meta tags on the HEAD section of a post which will be used by Facebook and Digg as the share preview.

Obviously, after the installation you will have to publish the plugin. This first step is enought for most of the webmasters to have their thumbnails displayed correctly on Facebook.
Note that only new posts will be shown correctly in the share preview. This plugin will not fix previous preview on facebook.

However, the installation of this plugin was not sufficient to share preview from the FMO Blog. We also need to use shortlink instead custom URL structure for the permalink.

Copy and paste your shortlink into your facebook page and you will be able to choose the first image of your post.

Hope this work around will help other WordPress users to fix this annoying Facebook issue.
